Chasing Mavericks is a 2012 American biographical drama film about the life of American surfer Jay Moriarity portrayed by Jonny Weston. The film also stars Gerard Butler, Elisabeth Shue, and Abigail Spencer.

The film is based on the true story of Moriarity, who was one of the first surfers to surf the Mavericks surf break, a notoriously dangerous big wave spot off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California.
