The Florida Panthers have taken an early lead in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 in the opening game of the series at Rogers Place. The Panthers rode a strong performance from goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who recorded a 29-save shutout.

The Oilers opened the scoring midway through the first period when Connor McDavid found the back of the net on the power play. However, the Panthers responded with three unanswered goals in the second period. Carter Verhaeghe tied the game with a goal at 5:33, followed by a goal from Aleksander Barkov at 12:35. Sam Reinhart gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead with a goal at 16:42.

Florida added to their lead in the third period when Matthew Tkachuk scored an empty-net goal with 1:19 remaining in the game. The Oilers pulled their goaltender, Jack Campbell, in an attempt to tie the game late, but the Panthers held on for the victory.

Bobrovsky was excellent in goal for the Panthers, stopping all 29 shots he faced. Campbell made 34 saves for the Oilers.

The Panthers now have a 1-0 lead in the series, with Game 2 set for June 10 in Edmonton.
